Dr. Ranette Halverson, Chair and Professor of Midwestern State University’s Department of Computer Science, was recently honored by the university from which she earned her doctorate. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas, Denton, on April 20. Dr. Barrett Bryant, Chair of the UNT Department, made the presentation at the Department’s Awards and Scholarship Banquet.

Halverson earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNT in 1993 after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from MSU Texas. She began her teaching career at MSU Texas in 1980.

“I was quite surprised and honored when they contacted me regarding my nomination,” Halverson said. “To receive this award among the many accomplished UNT Computer Science and Engineering graduates over the years is quite remarkable. I want to thank them not only for the award, but for the excellent education I received which prepared me for my career in academia.”

In 1998, Halverson was named Hardin Professor, the highest honor for a faculty member at MSU Texas. In 1992, she was selected by her fellow faculty to receive the Faculty Award. She also has published more than 25 papers, presented her research at regional and international conferences. Under her guidance, the Department of Computer Science has received multiple research and equipment grants and gifts.

Halverson has served on numerous MSU Texas committees over the years. In addition, she is active in the Wichita Falls community, her church, and with her family.
